Catalog Description:
It is no secret that the vast majority of disciplinary problems and frustration teachers encounter in the classroom, comes from the boys they teach. As a mother of boys, this course was designed to help teachers understand how to help boys be more successful in the classroom and understand where the difficulties lye.
Teachers care about their personal growth and excellence in the classroom and, you probably have a “bag of tricks” you have used in the past, to help foster learning in your classroom. This course will aid in improving your skills in helping students develop confidence and independence. This course will allow for you to understand teaching boys through 6 different lenses and how to incorporate those into your classroom. Additionally, this course will aid in fostering more engagement, achievement and independent growth and success with boys.

The Lost Boys: What's Up With Boys in School?
Mercedes Rasmussen, M.A, M.Ed., is a business teacher and DECA sponsor with 25 years of experience in the secondary classroom and 2 years of experience as an instructor at the University level in the area of Teacher Education. She believes in the power of building strong relationships with students and building a warm and welcoming classroom environment. In her free time Mercedes enjoys spending time with her husband and 2 sons. She is passionate about helping teachers enhance and build curriculum that engages students and helps to build excitement and confidence.
