Catalog Description:

Mentors can help new teachers in many ways. Mentors are veteran teachers who are both knowledgeable and experienced. They assist new teachers to adapt to the school climate and culture. They also guide the new teachers with curriculum, teaching strategies, and communication skills.

Having a mentor means there is someone to supervise and provide suggestions so that improvements can be made. Novice teachers can turn to their mentors for support and advice. In many programs, mentors are responsible for assessments of new teachers. Also, successful mentorship programs guide new teachers in choosing professional development opportunities.

Course Objectives:

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:

· Evaluate their learning style and set goals for change

· See the educational system through a different scope

· Adjust teaching styles to meet the needs of todays generation

· Better create connections between community and students

· Assist students in moving outside of their comfort zone

· Focus on positivity and resolve the negative conflicts surrounding schools

· Reflect on current and past ideals and look forward to future goals in the classroom

She believes in the power of building strong relationships with students and building a warm and welcoming classroom environment. In her free time Mercedes enjoys spending time with her husband and 2 sons. She is passionate about helping teachers enhance and build curriculum that engages students and helps to build excitement and confidence.

Step 1: Register for your course with your Provider (to include payment made to the Provider).

Step 2: Complete the online registration with CSU-Pueblo at https://secure.csupueblo.edu/extendedstudies/RegistrationForm-TEP.asp. Once you submit, you will receive an email confirming your registration. There will be a registration number in this email, and it may be helpful to document it. If you are taking multiple courses, you CAN REGISTER FOR MULTIPLE COURSES AT ONCE

Choose THE CONNECTED CLASSROOM as Provider

Step 3: Following your online registration, you can expect a follow-up email that will provide you with your PID number. You can expect this email approximately 7-10 days later. Keeping record of your PID number is encouraged. If you do not receive this contact the Extended studies office at CSU-Pueblo.

Step 4: Once your coursework is submitted to your provider and they’ve sent us your grade, we will enter it. This process can take up to 14 business days.

Step 5: A notification will NOT be sent out when your grade is transcribed, rather, you can periodically check your unofficial transcripts on your Student PAWS account to see when the grade is posted.

Step 6: To log in to your PAWS account, please see the instructions provided in the email you received with your PID number.

Step 7: Official Transcripts can also be ordered through your Student PAWS account.
