Catalog Description

This course is designed to deepen teacher skills with integrating mysteries and problem-solving across the curriculum for all ages. The course will provide plenty of opportunities for book ideas for classrooms and group discussions for all grade levels. Participants will assess and create hands-on activities focusing on the element of mystery and integrating problem solving and critical thinking. Participants will develop their own inspiring ideas and units for the classroom, library, or small reading groups.

 

Course Objectives

At the end of the course, Participants will be able to:

1) Evaluate quality mystery books and podcasts and understand how these can benefit their students with learning and setting new challenges.

2) Apply many new and creative ideas using mysteries and problem solving.

3) Understand ways to incorporate new resources to develop alternative projects for students with Individual Education Plans.

4) Understand ways to motivate student reading, critical thinking and problem solving.

5) Develop new ways to explain activities and concepts in the classroom so that students will continue to focus on ideas at hand.

6) Understand different ways to assess outcomes focusing on problem solving and reading.

7) Create new activities connecting podcasts and other useful activities with technology to help students critically think.
