Catalog Description
This course is designed to discuss very current topics or trends in the growing genre of young adult fiction. The course will provide plenty of opportunities for book ideas for the classroom, group discussions, and hands-on activities focusing on young adult interests and concerns. These current, well-reviewed books will help participants create new inspiring ideas for the classroom, library, or small reading groups.
Course Objectives
At the end of the course, Participants will be able to:
1) Evaluate quality young adult books and understand how these books can benefit their students with learning and setting new challenges.
2) Apply many new and creative ideas using young adult literature.
3) Understand ways to incorporate these books to develop alternative projects for students with Individual Education Plans.
4) Identify ways to integrate literature across the curriculum with current issues.
5) Research specific qualities of Young Adult Literature for the classroom.
6) Understand ways to motivate student reading.
